Psalm 119:73
Your hands have made and fashioned me;
Give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.
When God gives His commands to us through His word there is always a purpose. We have a tendency to think of God as someone who tells us what to do or not to do with a ‘because I said so’ attitude. Like we’re supposed to blindly follow with no reason given. However, this is an incorrect way of thinking and an incorrect view of God.
God is the Creator and therefore He knows exactly how His creation was made to function best. So, when we read the Bible and see that God tells us to pursue certain things and avoid other things; He is saying those things because not only is it right, but as Creator He knows what is best. We get in trouble when we start to think our way is better than God’s way, this is sin.
Psalm 119:80
May my heart be blameless in your statutes, that I may not be put to shame!
